The book is made with handmade paper samples by J Whatman. This gives a great feeling for these masterfully made papers that Whatman was well known for.
The book contains a wide selection of papers, some thick and others tissue thin. 16 pages are blank except for the letterpress paper type identifier.
The content includes a history of Whatman covering 160 years and their papermaking at the great Springfield Mill.
There are various artworks within including, photographs, copperplate etchings, wood engraved prints showing various processes of hand papermaking and a beautiful example of illumination with gold leaf, gold powder and ink,
The text is a hand cut alphabet.
