HISTORY - James Whatman invented wove paper in the 1700s, and continued to produce the finest paper made in the western world until the 1960s when their attention switched to manufacturing scientific paper for science.
They began making mould-made paper in the 1950s, and they made it to an incredibly high standard. Mould-made paper is manufactured on a slow machine. It attempts to emulate the best qualities of handmade paper with the consistency expected from a machine.
Used by Queen Victoria, George Washington, Napolean, Winston Churchill and so on, Whatman paper was prized for its strength and quality.
