A large, blank commonplace books filled with recycled paper.
A commonplace book is a personal compilation of knowledge, ideas, quotations, drawings and observations collected by an individual. It is a notebook or journal where one gathers and organizes information from various sources for future reference and reflection.
The books within this series have leather spines, vellum tipped corners and hand printed paper covers.
THE COVER PAPER ON THIS BOOK
A lino relief print of bulls, made on antique, handmade, French text-printed paper.
THE PAPER INSIDE
Five Seasons is a British-made recycled paper made from 100% recovered fibre.
Developed for publishing and printmaking, this paper works beautifully with drawing and writing inks, felt tipped, gel and marker pens, and pencils etc making it a wonderful, flexible-use paper- ideal for use in these bindings.
THE STRUCTURE
All Properly Made Books are made entirely by hand using superior techniques and materials which allow these books to effortlessly lay flat on a surface making them perfect for work in the studio.
Our Properly Made Books can also fold open a full 360 degrees, cover to cover.
This means that the book can be held open with one hand whilst drawing and writing in it with the other.
Fully opening most books would cause the spine to pop, rendering the book useless, but not a Properly Made Book!
SPINES & CORNERS
These books all have leather spines, simply tooled to the top and tail in genuine gold leaf.
The spines are blind tooled down the front and rear cover sides of the spine in a dogtooth pattern.
The corners are tipped in white vellum which not only looks very smart but crucially, adds a protective layer to the most prominent part of a book, especially when in transit in a bag.
fyi - vellum is an animal skin product, similar to leather to finished differently to give a smooth, papery surface.
