This is one of the longest, most sophisticated and expensive projects we've ever undertaken. It has been a long held ambition of ours to take the original artwork to a sophisticated repeat pattern multi-plate letterpress edition.

The pattern has been redrawn from a found French drawing made in 1909.

The accompanying photographs illlustrate the journey this has taken from the original drawing made in France in 1909 to a large scale screen print and finally to the finished article made using 3 plates and 3 print passes.

We use the paper as the base colour. The heavy black areas are printed first followed by the tiny dots and vines and finally the small rounds are printed on the black areas.

The registration and time required to get this right is quite something.  This is one of the most sophisticated recent letterpress projects we know of.

Print size: A3, 297 x 420 mm, 11.69 x 16.53 inches (short grain)

The print size excludes the unprinted border area.

Paper: Zerkall Ingres 90gsm (short grain)

Ink: Oil Based

Our printing process is done entirely by hand. This means that there may be slight variances from sheet to sheet including "salting" which is where the print may have very slightly patchy areas.
