VPCo Handmade Kozo Paper - 5 pack

Regular price £13.49 Sale price £10.99

Handmade using 100% Thai kozo saa fibre. These papers have a rougher surface than our Bamboo paper. However, even with the rough surface the papers pick up colour and tight detail exceptionally well.

Uses - All of our papers are well suited to dry media such as pencil, pastels, charcoal, etc.

Particularly good results have been achieved with:

letterpress, woodblock, etching, lithographs and block prints.

We have printed on this paper with metal type, wood type, polymer plate and antique wooden blocks as seen in the photographs.

For artists who are used to working with Western paper these will feel and work in a more familiar way because they are a heavyweight wove sheet rather than a lightweight, laid sheet which those of you who use Japanese papers might be more accustomed to.

About the fibre - Thai kozo is also known as 'saa'. It is in fact slightly different to Japanese kozo which is a more expensive and rare variety of mulberry. Many papers made in Japan are now made with saa.

The papers are archival quality, smooth, acid free, chlorine free and internally sized.

Uses - All of our papers are well suited to dry media such as pencil, pastels, charcoal, etc.

Particularly good results have been achieved with etching, lithographs and block prints. Our papers also work with inkjet and laserjet printers although care must be taken as the fibres in these papers can block inkjet nozzles.

The papers are suited for wet media such as acrylic and oils, but we recommend that the paper should be treated like a canvas and coated with a suitable sealing agent if heavy brushwork techniques are used.

Mulberry papers can also be used for watercolour if a dry layering technique is used. That is, if each layer of paint or wash is allowed to dry before applying subsequent layers. The papers are not recommended for wet on wet layering unless a sealing agent is used, as a 'dust' will form on the surface of the paper.
