Traditional 1881 Buckram Sketchbooks - WSH Handmade Paper
Made with handmade WSH watercolour paper.
Inspired by our wonderful antique J Whatman 1881 sketchbooks, we've made these as a more affordable option.
Like the originals, these have been bound by hand and filled with handmade watercolour paper, not from 1881 but from the 1950s.
The books are covered in a range of buckram book cloths and with tooling to the front covers and back covers
Large - 300 x 200 mm, 12 x 8 inches (when closed)
Small - 200 x 150 mm, 8 x 6 inches (when closed)
End papers: Every book has hand marbled endpapers. Created by Jemma Lewis, one of the world's leading marbled paper artists.
Pages: There are 16 pages (32 sides) with uncut, deckled edges in each book. Being over 70 years old some of the pages may have very slight age-related marks to the surface.
The paper was made in the 1950s in Somerset, England. It's a 180gsm, 90lb rough surfaced paper ideal for drawing, ink and of course, watercolour. Made from cotton rag and gelatine sized, it's a dream to paint on.
The tooling to the front is J Whatman 1881 - the inspiration for this project.
