These wonderful sketchbooks have been bound by hand by master bookbinders in London, England, and filled with ultra-rare, handmade 19th century antique paper.
The books are covered in an original "Reliance" vintage book cloth and with gold tooling to the front covers.
The tooling is a hand drawn facsimile of the watermark found on the mastersheets of these papers - J Whatman 1881.
Personalisation -Each buyer will be able to have their name, initials or title tooled in gold on the front cover. The font will be Times New Roman.
We will contact you to confirm your requirements.
The paper was handmade using cotton rag and sized with gelatine. It is a 300gsm 140lb "drawing" paper with a rough surface which can be used with watercolour, pencil and ink.
It was made in the same year Billy the Kid was shot by Pat Garret and the birth year of Anna Pavlova, Ulysses S Grant and Pablo Picasso; 1881. Two surfaces are available; Rough and NOT. The rough paper is soft white and the NOT is creamier. Both are 140lb.
There are 26 pages in each book and the pages are hand cut from one sheet of paper for consistency. Some of the pages may have age-related marks to the surface. We decided to keep these to celebrate the paper and its age.
