These mats are traditionally weaved by hand in our Stromness workshop by our new lad, Duncan.
Duncan is literally the boy from next door and our new workshop guy - he helps out with a bit of bookbinding, tool making and ensuring there's limitless coffee available. As well as having considerable experience working in a local ceramics studio he's also taught himself ropecraft.
Once day he brought some of his work to us and we thought it'd be nice if he made a few peices for us.
To create these beautiful and incredibly hard-wearing door mats he uses about 45 metres (145 ft) of pure jute rope.
These are hefty things and all being well should last a lifetime of foot wiping and stomping plus they'll age beautifully too.
Because of the amount of material and hours required to craft these plus the weight (4.5kg, 10lb) these are an expensive item to make.
On the plus side, Duncan has promised to save all the money he makes from these and put it towards his university fund when he starts there in October.
These will be made to order and there's very limited availability
