This animal was harvested in the wild in upstate New York. It was then tanned by Pergamena, a family firm based in Montgomery, NY who specialise in artisan quality vellum/parchment and leathers for fine-art, bookbinding, furniture and fashion.
Deerskin vellum/parchment - the lowdown
Colour: Deep, buttery yellow
Surface: Smooth; surface prepared for botanical watercolour and calligraphy.
Size: A5, 148 x 210mm, 5.8 x 8.3 inches (approximately).
Feel: Smooth finish with natural markings & texture. Scrapes, and scars combine with light colors and a surprisingly smooth surface to make deer a noticeably individual material.
Characteristics: The most wild of the parchments we produce, deer will often have the most obvious marks of a life outside the fence.
Calligraphy: For those who want the smooth surface of calf with a more wild and natural look, deer is a sturdy medium for all types of paints, inks, and solid media.
