preview: Føroyar Heimankambs Journal
From a series of a dozen hardback bindings.
A full paper binding covered with a unique section from Faroese maps, meaning that no two books in this series are the same. These Føroyar Journals are filled with recycled paper for writing and drawing making them perfect for every day use.
The name of each journal corresponds to the area of map on the front cover.
THE FAROE ISLANDS
Not to be confused with Fårö; Faro, Fair Isle; Farø, or Pharaoh.
The Faroes are an archipelago (several small islands) about half way between Iceland and Norway. The distance from Orkney to the Faroes, is only 190 miles. As a comparison, the distance from Orkney to Edinburgh is 235 miles.
Like Orkney, the Faroes were once under the control of Norway and so, for us, looking at maps of the Faroes and their familiar place names, studying images of their towns and landscapes, is often like looking at photographs of a cousin.
We're also reminded of the unique mindset one develops living the island life, which is best described in this poem
If ever you’ve lived on an island, if ever you’ve lived by the sea; You’ll never return to the mainland once your spirit has been set free -J. Earnhart © ’92
