A classic Properly Made Book with gold tooled leather spine, vellum tipped corners and filled with a fascinating mix of rare vintage papers for drawing and writing.
The marbled paper covers have been finished in the traditional way - burnished to a glossy finish and sealed with an old school shellac varnish which not only looks and feels wonderful, it also helps to protect the paper from damage and grubby finger marks!

This book is crafted entirely by hand using exactly the same techniques and materials as all of our Properly Made Books, a beautiful book made to last.
A notable feature on this book are the corners - they're "tipped" or covered with vellum. This not only looks great it also serves a practical purpose in helping to protect the most vulnerable part of the book when in transit, its corners.
About vellum - Vellum (aka parchment), like leather, is an animal skin product but it's processed differently to leather to give a strong, papery surface. In the UK, until the 1920s, vellum was widely used in important legal documents (loans, documents, mortgages, wills etc) because it was and remains the strongest of writing surfaces, its strength, flexibility and longevity prized. Under normal conditions, vellum is virtually indestructible.
Inside, the binding is filled with 136 pages of an interesting mix of vintage paper in various colours, tones and surfaces, including Hayle Mill, WS Hodgkinson, Zerkall, Hahnemuhle plus many more. Machine-made, mould-made and handmade papers are represented, all of which are suitable for work in ink and pencil.
As with all Properly Made Books , this notebook opens totally flat
and even beyond flat (the photo above showing the covers folded effortlessly back a full 360 degrees) ensuring it will withstand years of rigorous real-life, every day use.
