A binding in Dutch Gilt Paper, filled with paper for drawing & writing
THIS BOOK:
Small in size, large in beauty! This volume is bound in Dutch Gilt paper with gold tooled leather to the spine and corners.
Dutch Gilt refers to a type of high-quality, luxury decorative paper that was extremely popular in the 1700s. Key to its manufacture is using real metal leaf in place of inks.
The original production of Dutch Gilt ran from about 1600 to 1800. The papers on these bindings are the only modern variants available in the world, and are made by hand in Scotland using hand cut lino blocks meaning that the Dutch Gilt Properly Made Books in this sale are almost unfathomably rare.
SIZE: 2¾ x 3", 66 x 73mm
PAGES: 100
INSIDE: A mix of paper including Cold Pressed (rough textured) vintage Hayle Mill watercolour paper and an unidentified laid paper. Perfect for use with inks and pencils.

A partial Hayle Mill watermark. Hayle Mill was an important British papermill, making many fine papers for hundreds of years until its closure in the 1980s.

The foredges of this book are sprinkled in yellow ink, a further decorative touch to this already attractive binding.
