PMB Ausberg
Ausberg Commonplace Book
A book covered with a hand printed paper inspired by 18th century German prints, and filled with paper made by a once famous German papermill, now closed.
A commonplace book is a personal compilation of knowledge, ideas, quotations, drawings and observations collected by an individual. It is a notebook or journal where one gathers and organizes information from various sources for future reference and reflection.
THE BOOK
A beautiful book in landscape with five raised bands to the spine. The paper covers are letterpress printed on our antique proofing press on walnut dyed VPCo handmade paper. The pattern is called Ausberg and is inspired by 18th century German prints.
The chocolate brown goatskin leather spine is tooled with 5 carrots in 22 carat gold with carrots blind tooled along the cover side of the spine
The corners are tipped with vellum which helps to protect the most vulnerable part of the book when it's in a bag or being placed on a shelf.
THE PAPER INSIDE
Zerkall Wavy Laid is a beautiful white paper with subtle wavy lines in its surface. Developed for publishing and printmaking, over the years this became a firm favourite with artists using pen and ink.
Zerkall were a papermaker in Germany from the 1920s to 2022 when the mill closed due to catastrophic flooding
