This sale is for a bundle of 10 prints, one of each as shown in the photos. Each print is approximately 15 x 20 inches (380 x 510 mm).

Paste printed by hand in batches of 10 per pattern, from hand carved lino blocks in various colour ways, these well loved patterns are presented in ways not seen until now, bringing new life and possibilities for collectors and craftspeople.

Paste Printing is a very old technique princibly used by bookbinders of yore to quickly make simple and inexpensive patterned papers for the cover or end papers for a binding.

A pigmented paste (usually made from wheat flour) is evenly painted onto the sheet of paper and fingers or simple tools such as combs or shapes pieces of card scrape away areas of the still wet pigment to create light shapes and patterns on a dark background. 

The papers in this collection are made in much the same way but a variety of techniques have been used to make these a bit more fancy! For example instead of using tools, these wet painted sheets have been laid onto a carved printing block and please in a press which removes much of the wet paste to leave a light and dark pattern.

This process creates a softer image, not a "hi res" print as you would expect from a traditional process such as letterpress.

Relief printing is where a printing block or plate has ink applied to its non-recessed surface which is brought into contact with paper. When pressure is applied, the non-recessed surface will leave ink on the paper, whereas the recessed areas will not.

A note about US tariffs.

Ever since forever, we have sold hand pulled prints into the US from the UK.

These are classified under the harmonised code heading 970290 (original works of art), which specifically covers etchings, woodcuts or similar graphic arts produced by hand and are, under the current tariff scheme, exempt from attracting extra US duties under the tariff scheme.

We believe that, this being the case, our US customers should not be faced with any extra payments once the print bundles arrive in America. 

VPCo will include the necessary paperwork to try to ensure this eventuality, which will include: a commercial invoice, a certificate of authenticity, Air Waybill, CBP Form 7523 and a packing list. 

This will of course mean that the posting process will take a little longer than normal but hey ho!
