Regular price £90.00

a collection of 28 Antique Lining Papers.

Suitable for bookbinding, box making, picture framing, furniture decoration and the general paper crafts.

This collection represents a blend of brand new prints and a few "classics". Each print is printed by hand on text-printed paper from antique books dating variously from the 1600s through to the 1800s.

The text printed papers are taken from old books which have already been taken to pieces by print dealers who have removed the "best parts" to sell. If we didn't buy and use these pages they'd most likely end up dumped as they tend to have little use or value.

The paper used in these old books are all handmade (machine-made paper didn't come into existence until the mid 1800s), and made with rag. Rag is recycled old clothes, ship sails etc which were beyond use. They were collected by the rag and bone man who would sell them to rag dealers who sold them to paper mills who would pulp the materials (linen and latterly, cotton) and turn that into paper.

Print: Lino relief prints.

Relief printing is where a printing block or plate has ink applied to its non-recessed surface which is brought into contact with paper. When pressure is applied, the non-recessed surface will leave ink on the paper, whereas the recessed areas will not.
