One of a series of heavily gold tooled pocket bindings.
DESCRIPTION
Imagine an antique book crafted in the 17th and 18th centuries. This is the inspiration for this series of Monumenta bindings.
This tall book contains 124 pages of laid ingres drawing paper made by Zerkall, a recently closed papermill in Germnay. Suitable for inks and pencils, this maize coloured paper is a joy to use.
The book is an unusual format, tall and skinny, and lavishly tooled in white gold leaf over our walnut dyed, tan brown, vegetable tanned goatskin leather.
In the hand it feels reassuringly well made, the impressions of each patterned brass tool obvious.
The pages have been sewn on thick hemp cord to create 3 raised bands on the spine. Over time, opening and closing this book will give the spine a beautifully well-worn look.
The techniques used in the construction of the book is such that it can be fully opened without fear of causing any structural damage - we call this LayFlat.
