DESCRIPTION

Imagine an antique book crafted in the 17th and 18th centuries. This is the inspiration for this series of Monumenta bindings.

This landscape book contains 92 pages of laid ingres drawing paper made by Zerkall, a recently closed papermill in Germnay. Suitable for inks and pencils, this medium grey coloured paper is a joy to use.

The palm-sized book, lavishly tooled in 23½ carat gold leaf over our walnut dyed, rich brown, vegetable tanned goatskin leather is a thing of exquisite beauty. 

In the hand it feels reassuringly well made, the impressions of each patterned brass tool obvious. The pattern is a series of diamond shapes and dots set in a repeat pattern, surrounded by a sophisticated border.

The pages have been sewn on thick hemp cord to create 2 raised bands on the spine. Over time, opening and closing this book will give the spine a beautifully well-worn look. 

The techniques used in the construction of the book is such that it can be fully opened without fear of causing any structural damage - we call this LayFlat.
