Lux: Heritage Gold

Enjoy the aesthetic of this coaster, crafted from birch and leather with an expertly hand printed paper mounted atop.

LUX coasters are lined with beautiful 4mm thick chestnut brown bison leather, embossed with the VPCo logo. 

These coasters are made using a single sheet of hand printed paper, so whilst they share the master pattern, the particular piece of paper used to cover this coaster will show its own unique part of that pattern. This is why we list each coaster separately as no two are exactly the same.  

The print is sealed with layers of protective, marine-grade yacht varnish and the practicality of thick, luxurious thick bison leather on the back of the coaster ensures a sophisticated presence and an added protective touch for any tabletop.

Surface Print: Heritage - a relief print in metallic gold made on highly burnished, indigo painted sunn hemp paper.

Relief printing is where a printing block or plate has ink applied to its non-recessed surface which is brought into contact with paper. When pressure is applied, the non-recessed surface will leave ink on the paper, whereas the recessed areas will not. 

To make our prints we use this press, the GEM, which dates to the early 1900s. Ours cost a little bit more than £65 though...

Heritage is one of the first patterns we printed. It harks back to 18th century Europe, most likely France.

This book dates back to the 18th century, the pattern here made with two colours. It was most often made in one colour, commonly blue on white paper.
