Ceramic Tiles
Made by hand by printmakers and bookbinders in our studio in Stromness, Orkney, Scotland, our ceramic tiles feature imagery taken from our huge archive of beautiful decorative hand printed papers, designed and made over the years in Scotland.
These decorative papers which inspire our coaster tiles are hand drawn before being cut into printing blocks, and then printed and hand coloured by hand on various types of antique presses.
The papers are mostly used to cover "Properly Made Books" - a series of highly sought after handmade blank books, held by some of the most distinguished book-art collections including the Met Library in NY, Harvard Special Collections and many more.
Each coaster tile measures 4 x 4 wide x ¼ inch thick (100 x 100 x 6 mm) square. The flat kiln process we use ensures that the colours and surface of each tile is always perfect.
Next week we're so excitied to finally release our collection of printed ceramic tiles.
Made in our workshop and featuring imagery from our vast archive of hand printed decorative papers, we've been trialling them on the shelves in our shop to great success!
The reason we decided to make these was because we wanted to find a way to share our printed material with a wider audience in a more practical way, make something useful and pretty!
There are about 30 tiles in our small (4 inch) collection and 15 in our larger (8 inch) pot stand collection.

One of the things which has really excited us is making full ceramic prints of printed papers as seen below.
We're currently finessing this process and soon we will be able to offer a huge number of these complete prints as well as offering a bespoke service for your imagery including prints and photographs. If you have an interest in this please get in touch.
